Episode #3 - Ceramic Coating | What It Is and Why Is Everyone Talking About It?

Let’s talk about ceramic coating. You’ve probably heard the term thrown around—maybe from a mate who just got it done, or you’ve seen it mentioned on detailing pages (guilty as charged).

But what actually is it? Is it worth the money? Does it make your car bulletproof?

In this post, we’re breaking down the basics—no fluff, no jargon—just what you actually need to know. We'll clear up some common myths, explain how it works, and help you decide if it’s the right move for you and your car.

So, What Is Ceramic Coating?

In simple terms, it’s a liquid polymer that bonds to your car’s paint and cures into a hard, protective layer. Think of it like a long-lasting shield that sits on top of your paint, offering better protection than wax or sealants—and looking glossy AF while doing it.

It doesn’t peel. It doesn’t wash off in the rain. And no, it’s not the same as PPF (paint protection film).

What Does It Actually Do?

  • Repels water, dirt, and grime (hello easier washes).

  • Adds a deep gloss and slick finish.

  • Protects against UV rays, light scratches, bird droppings, and more.

  • Helps preserve your car’s paintwork long term.

But here's the thing: it doesn’t mean you never need to wash your car again. It just means it's easier to maintain, and holds its shine with less effort.

Common Misconceptions

  • “It’s bulletproof.” Nope. It’s tough, but not invincible. It helps resist light scratches and environmental damage, but you still need to care for your car.

  • “You never have to wash your car again.” Also no. You'll still need to wash it regularly – you can just get away with washing it less often, and with much better results.

  • “All coatings are the same.” Definitely not. Quality varies massively, and so does the prep work (which is arguably more important than the coating itself).

Who Do We Trust For Coatings?

We only use products we’ve tested ourselves – the ones that we know actually deliver on their promises. Our go-to suppliers for coatings are Carbon Collective & Performance PPL (we're not saying others are rubbish, we just haven't tried them to have an opinion!) We know how they perform, how long they last, and how to apply them properly.

Why It Benefits You (And Your Car)

If you:

  • Love the look of a freshly detailed car but hate how quickly it fades

  • Want to make cleaning it quicker and easier

  • Or just want to protect your investment...

…ceramic coating is a no-brainer.

It’s not just for supercars, either. Daily drivers, family wagons, weekend toys – they all benefit. And when done properly, it can last for years.

How Does It Work, Exactly?

We start with a full decontamination wash and machine polish to get your paint looking as good as it can. Then we apply the coating itself. A lot of people think ceramic coating can’t be done outdoors—and in some cases, they’re right. But the coatings we use are made specifically for mobile detailers, so working outside is no problem as long as the weather’s on our side. If it’s raining, too damp, or just not ideal, we’ll either use a garage if one’s available or reschedule - whatever’s needed to get the job done right. Once it’s on, the coating bonds to your paint and cures into a rock-solid, hydrophobic layer.

The result? Protection, high gloss, and peace of mind.
